INDABA 8 will be held at Skukuza in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. Delegates must arrive at the venue on Sunday 16 August and depart again on the morning of 21 August.

One of the Kruger Park's main objectives is to maintain the ecosystem in its natural state and to offer the visitor an unrivaled experience of African wildlife. While offering excellent accommodation facilities, the Park has retained a genuine African atmosphere - to the delight of the scores of visitors to the New South Africa. August in South Africa, falls within the popular season to visit the lowveld for those who wish to escape the cold of the highveld. During this time surface water is restricted to rivers and artificial watering holes and the animals tend to congregate there. Because the grass is dry and most trees are leafless, visibility is also much better.

One of South Africa's authors and nature lovers, C Louis Leipoldt, wrote the following about this part of the country: "The ideal time to visit the Bushveld is in winter, from May to November. Then the climate is charmingly even: its mornings, when the sun tinges the tops of the bush, are delightfully crisp and cool; its noon is pleasantly but not relaxingly warm; its afternoons and evenings, stained by an all-too-brief afterglow with amazingly vivid colouring, are as mild and beautiful as a summer's night in Europe".

Excursions into the Park will give both delegates and accompanying persons the opportunity to view the unparalleled diversity of wildlife, including antelope, buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hyena, jackal, black and white rhinoceros, an exceptional variety of bird species and numerous other wild creatures.

Skukuza camp is the largest camp in the Kruger Park and is situated in the southern part of the park on the bank of the Sabie river. Facilities available include a doctor, a bank and autoteller, a post office, a library, laundromat and irons, public telephones, a shop, cafeteria and restaurant.Please indicate on the registration form whether you would like to share accommodation, or stay single. Please communicate any special accommodation requirements to the conference secretariat. Accommodation is available in air-conditioned, self-contained chalets with an en suite bathroom, in which two people are normally accommodated. If you would like to bring along a third person, this can also be arranged.

All units in the camp are serviced daily and bedding, towels and soap are provided. Most of the units have either air conditioning or fans.

Families or groups wishing to stay together must contact us well in advance to ensure booking of appropriate accommodation. Prices for such arrangements will depend on final availability. Because the accommodation capacity within each category varies, it is impossible to guarantee a specific allocation. We will, however, try our best to meet your specific requirements. Accommodation will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. For shared accommodation, please indicate any partner preferences on the registration form.
